Remove XP Antivirus 2012 virus

XP Antivirus 2012 is just another fake antivirus program that is a clone of XP Internet Security 2010 malware. It reports false infections and displays a lot of fake security alerts in order to trick you into purchasing its so-called full version.

What XP Antivirus 2012 does

XP Antivirus 2012 is distributed with the help of trojans that come from various misleading websites. When the trojan is started, it will install this malware. On first run, XP Antivirus 2012 configures itself to start automatically. Next, the fake antivirus will simulate a system scan and list a lot of false infections that actually does not exist!

XP Antivirus 2012 will state that your computer is infected with adware, trojans, worms or malware with one purpose - to scare you into thinking that your PC in danger. Obviously, such results are a fraud, so you can freely ignore them.

What is more, while XP Antivirus 2012 is running, it will flood your computer with fake security alert and notifications from Windows task bar. Some of the fake alerts are:
Privacy threat!
Spyware intrusion detected. Your system is infected.
System integrity is at risk. Private data can be stolen by
third parties including credit card details and passwords.
Click here to perform a security repair.
Attention: DANGER!
ALERT! System scan for spyware, adware, trojans and viruses is complete.
XP Antivirus 2012 detected 28 critical system objects.
XP Antivirus 2012 Firewall Alert
XP Antivirus 2012 has blocked a program from accessing
the internet
Firefox is infected with Trojan-BNK.Win32.Keylogger.gen

As you can see, XP Antivirus 2012 is absolutely useless and what is more, even dangerous software. Most importantly, do not purchase it. Instead, please use the XP Antivirus 2012 removal guide in order to remove this malware from your computer for free.

  1. The one thing that seems not to be explained is: Where does it stem from? How is it installed? OK redirected to a website but then at least something is run in the background. Is it imposed on clicking a download link and actually download and execute this malware? If so, can it circumvent restricted user accounts (ie. not being an admin?). If all this is true, ie. one needs to take action themselfs, why was it started. Looking for a nice crack that turned out to be something else? How can we sort out malicious sites to counter malicious software? BTW, Saying Win 7 is crap, get XP shows one thing: You did not understand computers! I have some ignorent who has the same problem on XP now. Sure, sure he too is an admin...

    1. I was fortunate to have a dual boot with Ubuntu. Firefox is working fine on the Ubuntu boot. WinXP will not get on the web. Popup was block through actions but perhaps I can reload my Winsock and Windows Firewall. Just do not have the time.

  2. I am currently dealing with this obnoxious bastard myself. So far I got it cleared off my computer with Spybot S&D but then on reboot none of my programs are responsive. Only files which I'm backing up to a flash drive. The pop ups are no longer occurring however.

  4. We had the same problem with Windows XP Proffesional. But this client had no anti-virus to begging with so that is a given entry to malware. Our tech said that before the virus was not letting him download anything or connect to the internet. He used a ethernet cable to try to connect but the virus would shut it off with 15 seconds. So note that also. Now he is using Avast to clean it out. loading very slow though 40%. So far the pop up has stopped.

  7. People that create these viruses need to be found and jailed. It's really a big deal. They hurt alot of innocent people and waste an unimaginable amount of everybody's time.

  8. ctrl+alt+delete and end the process jdp i believe it is and that will kill the program until you reboot. if you notice you cannot use any system restore or anything while the infection is in course. but you might be able to restore you system to before you got it...

  9. I certainly agree - this is as bad as piracy of movies and music - stiff penalties. The technology is there to catch these felons!
